Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

No! Leafed requires no account, registration, or sign-in. Just download and start using it immediately.
Yes, completely free. No in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no hidden fees. We're supported by optional tips and Amazon affiliate links.
Yes. Your entire library, shelves, notes, and reading sessions work offline. Searching for new books and scanning require an internet connection to look up book data.

Scanning & Features

The camera is used for barcode scanning (ISBN codes) and bookshelf scanning (AI spine recognition). It's only active when you open the scanner. We never store or transmit images.
Ensure good lighting, hold your phone steady about 6-12 inches from the barcode, and make sure camera permission is granted. If the barcode is damaged, try the search feature instead.
Leafed uses public APIs including Open Library, Google Books, and the NYT Books API. All requests are anonymous — no personal data is shared with these services.

Privacy & Data

No. All data stays on your device. iCloud sync moves data between your Apple devices through Apple's encrypted infrastructure — Leafed never sees it.
Amazon affiliate links help support development at no extra cost to you. They're optional — you're never required to use them. Your reading data is never shared with Amazon.
Go to Settings and use the Export feature to download your full library in JSON or CSV format. Your data is always yours to take.

Sync & Backup

On iOS, Leafed syncs your library through your personal iCloud container. Data goes directly from your device to your iCloud — no Leafed servers involved. Available on iPhone and iPad.
Android uses manual export and import for backups. Export your library to a JSON file and import it on another device. We're exploring additional sync options.
